On March 9, the semi-final of the 2019 French Theater Competition (South China region), organized by the French Embassy in China and the Consulate General of France in Guangzhou, was held at the Guangzhou Watermelon Theater. Chen Xingxia and Xiao Fengjie, second-year students of CFLC’s French Department, won the first prize for their remarkable rendition of Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme, a classic work by Molière.

Their outstanding acting skills, elaborate costumes and individualized performance wowed the audience and impressed the jury. The jury commented, “Taking into account everything a play should have, the two of them worked together with a thorough understanding of the script and the roles. As sophomores, it was amazing to see two sophomores present such a fascinating performance. We hope you will have an opportunity to experience French theatric culture in France.”

The duo will advance to the national final on March 30.
