On   July 10, CFLC’s “Worldwide Friends” Summer Social Practice Team kicked off   its first “Bilingual Corner” event themed on the “time machine” in   collaboration with members of XMU’s Tea Society.

The   venue of the event was bedecked with flowers and the flags of various   nations. First, participants were lined up in two lines facing each other and   each participant gave a three-minute introduction of himself or herself to   the person that he or she was facing and then to the next person on the line.   The game was called the “three-minute date”.

Then,   the participants took part in a “story relay” game, with the story beginning   with the line “if I had a time machine”. By creating a story together through   a relay, the activity was intended to develop   developmental flexibility, ability to compromise and empathy   – all important parts of creativity.

Finally,   the participants engaged in a discussion on certain topics relating to the   time machine, such as “If you had only three days left, where would you   choose to go and what would you do?” and “If you had a time machine, which   historical period would you want to go back to and why?” Through the   discussion, the students drew inspirations from one another’s ideas.

Members   of the XMU Tea Society also staged an artistic show featuring traditional   Chinese culture, wowing the audience.

The   event was intended to Chinese and international students at Xiamen University   to build friendships with one another. Many of the international students on   campus are from countries along the “21st-Century Maritime Silk Road”. It   created a cultural bridge for Chinese and international students in response   to the nation’s “Belt and Road” Initiative.

The   party also gave students an opportunity to enhance their interpersonal   skills.
