XMU Leadership Meets with CFLC Faculty to Discuss “World-class Discipline” Development

On March 31, XMU President Zhu Chongshi and Vice Presidents Yan Bin and Ye Shiman , as well the heads of the Universitys various administrative offices, held a meeting in the CFLC Building with CFLC Dean Zhang Longhai, Party Secretary Chen Zhiwei, department chairs, and program directors.


 During the meeting, CFLC Dean Prof. Zhang Longhai delivered a presentation on CFLCs efforts to build world-class programs and a world-class college in terms of academic programs, faculty development, academic research, talent cultivation, social services, alumni networks, development opportunities, high-caliber faculty recruitment, and academic strengths. He also elaborated on CFLCs “Foreign Languages Plus” concept and strategy of serving the nations One Belt, One Road initiative.



 CLFC Party Secretary Chen Zhiwei expounded CFLCs role in relation to the internationalization strategies of the state, province, city and university. She also expressed her hope that CFLC would be incorporated into the Universitys development platform for high-level disciplines.



 In his speech, President Zhu Chongshi talked about CFLCs 94-year-old history and renowned Fujian translators Yan Fu and Lin Yutang. He raised five requirements for CFLC: 1. to further align its academic programs with the states strategic positioning; 2. to build top-class linguistic programs in service of the nations One Belt, One Road initiative; 3. to raise the standard of research by combining it more tightly with teaching and by increasing interdisciplinary, collaborative and innovative research; 4. to ensure that students acquire a solid command of foreign languages as applied disciplines and develop strong occupational skills; and 5. to work together with the University to develop solutions to CFLCs practical issues.
