CFLC Students Offer Virtual Tutoring to Medical Workers’ Children

Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus epidemic in late January, the Chinese people have been racing against time in a fight against the epidemic. With the whole country’s arduous effort, the domestic epidemic prevention and control situation has turned for the better, prompting an acceleration in the resumption of life and work.

In a bid to contribute to the battle against the epidemic, about 40 CFLC students have provided online tutoring for children of medical workers in Xiamen who have answered the call of the nation by dedicating themselves to the fight against the coronavirus.

President Xi Jinping has called for great attention to the protection and care for medical workers to make sure they are healthy and stay focused on winning the battle against the outbreak of novel coronavirus disease. He said: “Medical workers are the backbone force in defeating the epidemic, and it must be ensured that they get full support. More efforts are needed to relieve the stress on medical workers, and provide them with adequate daily necessities, ensure they have necessary rest, and get encouragement.”

In response to President Xi’s call, CFLC students have taken advantage of their language skills to provide “cloud tutoring” for children of local medical workers. They prepare lesson plans and tutor the children three times a week, 1.5 hours at a time. They have shown a keen sense of responsibility to the nation and the people.

It’s challenging to keep kids focused on homework during this school closure, but CFLC student volunteers adopt the right approach to teaching. They devise great ways to support schoolchildren during these difficult times. They offer free online one-on-one sessions that help kids tackle difficult subjects and homework. They encourage kids to develop new skills that will set them up for success in school and life.

While some schoolchildren are struggling with not being in their classrooms, they might find having the one-on-one attention of a tutor, even an online one, just the thing they need to finally understand something that they might have been too shy to ask about in a crowded classroom with many other students.

CFLC students keep the schoolchildren motivated while alleviating stress for their parents, who are preoccupied with the fight against the epidemic. With CFLC students, the schoolchildren remain on track academically despite the unprecedented disruption.
