On April 26, CFLC Party Secretary Chen Zhiwei, Vice-Dean Prof. Chen Duanduan, English Department Vice-Chair Prof. Lin Bin, and Youth League Secretary Yue Wuyang visited Xiamen Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office (XMFOCA). They met with XMFOCA Director Li Xiaoping and Deputy Director Huang Feng to discuss continuing joint efforts to build internship bases for CFLC students. They also attended the opening ceremony for an internship base at XMFOCA for CFLC’s graduate students.

On April 27, another internship base at XMU’s Office of International Cooperation and Exchnage (OICE) formally opened to CFLC students in a ceremony attended by both OICE and CFLC officers.

Following the opening ceremony, CFLC Party Secretary Chen Zhiwei, Dean Prof. Zhang Longhai, Deputy Party Secretary Zheng Xinfeng, and student representatives met with OICE Director Tan Shaobin and Deputy Directors Yu Hongbao and Zhang Shengqiang to discuss efforts to sustain the operations of the internship base.

In recent years, CFLC students have regularly completed internships with OICE by working as assistants in OICE’s day-to-day functions, document translation, reception of international visitors, and recruitment and administration of international students.

Taking advantage of their linguistic skills, CFLC students also have also provided volunteer services for the international events hosted by the University, such as the celebrations marking the University’s 85th, 90th and 95th anniversaries, the ninth Confucius Institutes Conference, the Conference of Directors of Confucius Institutes, the annual Cross-Strait English and Japanese Interpreting Contests, and the China-Japan University Presidents Forum.

Moreover, CFLC students have rendered volunteer services to the international events hosted by the City of Xiamen, notably the annual China International Fair for Investment and Trade, the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting, Xiamen International Stone Fair, and Nanyang Cultural Festival, winning praise from the organizers for their outstanding language skills and dedication to their jobs.

CFLC is committed to securing more internship opportunities for its students so that they can gain practical experience, apply what they have learned in the classroom, and fulfill their academic program goals. And over the years, CFLC students have contributed to the University’s global outreach efforts and Xiamen’s internalization drive.
