On June 8, the award ceremony for the “Know Yourself, Love Yourself” Audio Dubbing Contest was staged in the lecture hall of Nanguang Building III. XMU staff members joining the ceremony included Jiang Shan of XMU Psychological Counseling and Education Center; Wu Shanshan, Secretary of the CFLC Youth League Committee; Dai Xiaoyan, Deputy Secretary of the CFLC Youth League Committee; and Yang Shenglan, counselor of CFLC.

The competition was jointly organized by XMU Psychological Counseling and Education Center and CFLC, attracting students from various XMU schools. The participating students submitted a fascinating range of dubbing works. The jury made insightful comments on the entries. After scoring by the jury and online voting, two students were awarded the first prize, four awarded the second prize, and ten awarded the third prize. Three other students received the Most Popular Work Award, the Best Photography Award and the Best Voice Quality Award, respectively.

The theme “Know Yourself, Love Yourself” embodied the connection between the inner and the outer, calling for attention to one’s emotions and time in the present moment. The entries submitted by the contestants were focused precisely on this theme.

 “Know Yourself, Love Yourself” is to take time out of our hectic schedule to observe nature up close. The student Wu Xiaomeng’s entry took us on a tour of the campus of the university. Yang Yufeng’s work inspired us to experience the delights of a refreshing morning. Zhang Yufei’s entry features wild geese soaring in the sky amidst the rays of the setting sun.  Jiang Wenzhi’s entry captured the mood during the rainy season. Chen Xinyu’s entry reflected mediations amidst the flow and ebb of the tides. Deng Shan’s and Cao Feiyan’s works highlighted the initial power of human life in the universe.

“Know Yourself, Love Yourself” inspired students to try to pause each day and take a walk to view nature. Li Shuying’s and Li Lingxian’s works encouraged students to take a break from life once in a while as our minds needed to unwind. Tang Heng and Ye Minghua’s work alerted students to the risks and dangers in the virtual world. Li Jiayun’s entry elaborated on the theme “Know Yourself, Love Yourself”. Wang Lu wrote a “letter to herself”, sharing her reflections. Entries submitted by Li Yujun, Ran Na and Song Ruimin inspired passion for life despite trials and tribulations. Cai Guoxing’s English song accentuated the value of resilience, perseverance and liberty.

The wonderful works by the contestants added healing power to the hearts of all. In the end, two students, Cai Guoxing and Li Jiayun, won the first prize; four students, including Deng Shan, received the second prize; and ten students, including Tang Heng and Ye Minghua, were awarded the third prize.

After the award ceremony, Ms. Jiang Shan took stock of the competition, saying that she was impressed by the creativity of the students. This competition had the same theme as the movie “Soul”, which is to live in the present moment. Through the combination of pictures, sounds and texts, the students were able to share their understanding of themselves and life by observing their inner world and taking a break from their busy academic schedule to recharge their minds and bodies.

The “Know Yourself, Love Yourself” Audio Dubbing Competition came to a fruitful conclusion. Life is a journey filled with lessons, hardships, joys, celebrations and special moments that will ultimately lead us to our destination, our purpose in life. The road will not always be smooth; in fact, throughout our travels, we will encounter many challenges. Some of these challenges will test our courage, strengths and weaknesses and drive us forward.
