On April 24, 2021, the Fujian regional round of the 26th China Daily “21st Century – Coca-Cola Cup” National College English Speech Competition was held. Luo Hanyu, a third-year student from the CFLC Department of English, and Peng Sicheng, a second-year student from the same department, won the championship and the first prize, respectively. Luo Hanyu advanced to the national final.
Before the regional competition, the two students competed in the university selection round and emerged triumphant. They advanced to the provincial competition, representing Xiamen University in the Fujian final. Coached by Professor Yang Shizhuo and Assistant Shen Anni, Luo Hanyu won the championship in the final round, and Peng Sicheng won the first prize.
Inaugurated in 1996, the China Daily “21st Century – Coca-Cola Cup” National College English Speech Competition is sponsored by China Daily and organized by 21st Century English Education Media. Since its inception, the competition has upheld the principles of fairness, impartiality and openness, actively responding to the call of the Ministry of Education to promote quality education and cultivate talent. The contest has made positive contributions to the development of quality English education in China. Over the past 25 years, the annual competition has drawn hundreds of thousands of students from nearly 1,000 colleges and universities, providing a specialized communicative platform for English educators and learners.
