In order to explore the development and composition of grassroots government agencies in the western region, to understand the work of grassroots public servants, and to identify exemplary grassroots workers for college graduates, on July 22, the CFLC “Serve the Nation” Social Practice Group visited the Sanzha Township Government in Zhangye City, where they met with outstanding village officials recruited from college graduates. The group was received by Zhang Dingxiang, secretary of the CPC Committee of Ganzhou District, Zhangye City, and Liang long, secretary of the CPC Committee of Sanzha Town, Ganzhou District, Zhangye City. On behalf of the local government, the two officials presented a copy of the Zhangye Commemorative Book to the CFLC Social Practice Group.

After the welcoming ceremony, the CFLC social practice group attended a routine meeting of town and village officials in Sanzha Town, and surveyed the various agencies of the township government to understand their composition, teambuilding and operations.

During the visit, the practice team members were impressed by the township court, which had only five staff members. According to the judge of the northeast suburban tribunal of the Ganzhou District Court, although the court has only two judges, it is extremely efficient. The court received more than 400 cases in the first half of the year, and 300 cases have been closed so far. In line with the principle of being people-centric and serving the people wholeheartedly, grassroots officials go deep into the masses and thoroughly fulfill their responsibilities and solve problems, demonstrating their dedication to the western region and willingness to make personal sacrifices for regional development.

Through the visit, the practice group came to appreciate the proud achievements made in the development of the new countryside, as well as the conviction, dedication and pragmatism of grassroots officials. Township governments may be small, but they have all necessary agencies and perform very detailed work. All agencies work closely together, and grassroots officials concentrate on the fulfillment of their duties and responsibilities, contributing to the development of the “beautiful countryside” and the western region; thus, the prospects for the development of the new countryside are brilliant.

After the visit, the social practice group met with local village officials who had been recruited from college graduates. Eight outstanding village officials, including Chen Guopan, Zhang Jinjing and Jiang Wanning, had a talk with the social practice group, sharing their work experiences and feelings about professions.

Asked why they had chosen to become a village official, they said that the grassroots government offered very competitive remunerations to recruited college graduates, and that every young person should fully unleash their potential to create value and seize every opportunity to strive for great achievements.

A member of the social practice group raises a question.

During the meeting, Jiang Wanning, an official from Wayao Village, shared with the team members a heart-warming story. In the first winter after he came to Wayao Village, torrential rains flooded many culverts. In order to ensure normal passage for vehicles on the highway, Jiang followed the village to the culverts to drain water. Standing in the icy water, he wondered whether he had made the right choice for his career by joining the village. Just as he was feeling dispirited, local villagers gave him a thumbs-up and thanked him profusely for draining the culverts. This brought him to the realization that serving the people wholeheartedly and winning their recognition was the greatest joy in life.

Listening to such stories, the social practice group were touched by the dedication of local officials who had been recruited from college graduates. These officials were writing a brilliant chapter for their lives by contributing to the development of the western region and to the great cause of rural revitalization.

Grassroots work is by no means easy, and “serving the people” is by no means a slogan. Grassroots work not only concerns all areas of reform and development, but also involves direct interaction with the masses. Grassroots officials give first priority to the needs of the people and “roll up their sleeves and get things done” for the benefit of the public. With their diligence, dedication and determination, they have set a shining example for the young generation.
