Posted: 2023-10-20

Introduction

The CFLC Graduate Academic Seminar and Foreign Language and Literature Doctoral Forum (collectively, “the Seminar”) are prestigious academic events jointly organized by the Graduate School and the College of Foreign Languages and Cultures, Xiamen University. The Seminar serves as an annual platform for young scholars to exchange ideas and engage in academic discussions, emphasizing the foundational and strategic support of education, science and technology, and talent in building a modernized country. Since its inception in 2008, the Seminar has successfully convened for 15 sessions, receiving over 1,580 research papers. The participation rate of students has steadily increased, fostering a vibrant academic atmosphere and elevating the quality of research papers.

Embracing the principles of diversity, inclusiveness, openness, and complementarity, the Seminar invites paper submissions from undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students from universities nationwide. The Seminar encompasses three sub-forums: undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral, covering research areas such as foreign literature and cross-cultural communication, linguistics and lexicography, and interpreting and translation studies. This differentiation allows for more specialized and targeted academic exchanges, providing a professional platform for students to explore cutting-edge academic issues, showcase research achievements, and exchange academic experiences.

Event Information

The Seminar will be held from December 8th to 10th, 2023. It will include keynote speeches, expert lectures, paper presentations, and thesis defenses.

Based on the quality of papers and the performance in the defense sessions, several outstanding papers will be selected for first, second, and third prizes. After the Seminar, the selected outstanding papers will be published to acknowledge the efforts made by the authors in their academic research.

To enhance academic professionalism, the Seminar will establish separate doctoral, master's, and undergraduate forums. The paper submission, selection, and related academic lectures will also be categorized according to the different sub-forums and professional directions. The submission areas for this year include: foreign literature and cross-cultural communication, linguistics and lexicography, and interpreting and translation studies. Participants in each sub-forum will have the opportunity to present their papers under the guidance of faculty members in their respective fields and engage in in-depth discussions and exchanges.

The Seminar will continue to adopt online registration and paper submission. CFLC will organize expert evaluations, and the selected students will present their papers and defend them on-site. The conference does not charge any fees, and participants are responsible for their own transportation, accommodation, and other expenses.

The language for thesis defense should be Chinese (except for international students). We welcome students who are interested in foreign languages and literature, and who wish to enhance their academic and research abilities, to actively sign up and showcase themselves by participating in the Seminar.
