CFLC Hosts Forum on Translation and Interpreting Studies

On April 15, CFLC successfully hosted the Forum on Translation and Interpreting Studies: Inheritance and Innovation as part of its New Century Series of High-level Academic Forums. The forum celebrated the centennial anniversary of CFLC and brought together renowned experts and scholars from prestigious institutions worldwide.


The opening ceremony, chaired by Professor Su Wei, featured speeches by Professor Xu Jun from Zhejiang University and Professor Chen Jing, Dean of CFLC. Professor Xu congratulated the centennial anniversary and emphasized Xiamen University’s contributions to translation development. He highlighted the spirits of openness, truth-seeking, and creativity that translation scholars should inherit, as well as the importance of theoretical innovation, keeping up with the times, and talent cultivation. Professor Chen Jing reflected on CFLC’s rich history and its commitment to simultaneous development in talent cultivation and discipline construction.


The forum included keynote speeches and two parallel forums: the Forum on Translation History Research and the Forum on Interdisciplinary Studies of Interpretation and Translation. Distinguished experts delivered captivating speeches on various topics, covering translation standards, foreign propaganda translation, discourse system construction, applied translation research, interpretation quality evaluation, and more.


The parallel forums provided in-depth discussions on translation history research and interdisciplinary studies of interpretation and translation. Scholars explored the historical evolution of translation studies, the social attributes influencing translation functions, and the cultural inheritance embedded in translation.


The closing ceremony, chaired by Professor Han Chao, featured summary speeches by Dr. Cui Feng and Associate Professor Chen Sijia. Professor Xu Qi delivered the closing speech, expressing gratitude and emphasizing the importance of inheriting traditions while exploring new paths and promoting interdisciplinary exchanges.


The forum showcased CFLC’s commitment to translation studies and its contribution to the field. It provided a platform for scholars to exchange ideas, discuss innovative approaches, and contribute to the establishment of a more flexible and distinctive translation discourse system.
